Where it’s AT: Green Mexican Getaway

Embedded deep within Valle de Bravo, Mexico City’s nearby rural retreat, the AT House is surrounded by a hilly, woody lake landscape and was built to carefully preserve an area popular among conservation-minded tourists and eco-adventurists. Designed by Gómez Crespo Arquitectos, the home is spread among several platforms that conform to the topography of the lot, each with a view of Lake Avándaro. Built primarily from structural steel and glass, a wooden, open-beam ceiling adds warmth, while more contemporary materials invite light and an airy aesthetic. Most of the metal support structures were painted tree bark brown and concrete was given earthy shades to compliment the surroundings, which the home helps keep green with its solar panels, passive ventilation, organic water treatment and onsite water recycling.
