SYTYCD: No more unitards and fashion bric-a-brac
By Michelle Licudine and Gail Blair
Last night’s results show left us sans two more dancers and a judge temporarily (Nigel was receiving an honorary degree from the University of Bedfordshire in England), but provided the following details: Ellen DeGeneres will guest judge next week and Katie Holmes will perform results night to commemorate the show’s 100th episode (which we reported in an earlier post).
The best news was that SYTYCD received four Emmy nominations for choreography: Mia Michaels for the doorway dance to “Mercy,” Tabitha and Napoleon’s “Bleeding Love” dance (our fave of the group), Tyce DiOrio’s dance to “Silence” and Dmitry Chaplin’s tango to “A Los Amigos”. YAY!
SYTYCD: Top 8
Here’s how the evening went down.
Group performance
That was an Asian sensation! House of Flying Daggers meets Memoirs of a Geisha. Yet another memorable Wade Robson choreographed piece.
Fashion Cat critique
Messy hair…tough pumps…sequined dress with an immodest hemline…we did request she punk up her look. Someone paid attention. We got plenty more style ideas where that came from, Cat.
Guest performance
Right from the first season, The Black Eyed Peas have opened their music catalogue for SYTYCD’s use. Guess you could call them the unofficial house band. We’re pretty sure it was sung live and it was a decent performance, but there was no reason why Fergie needed to sport that furry baton. She needs to keep that business to herself.
Randi and Kupono given their walking, er, dancing papers
Eliminations
Melissa, Ade, Randi and Kupono were in the bottom four. We were not happy with Ade and Melissa in the hot seat, but ultimately Randi (and her unitards) and Kupono (fashion warrior of tribe bric-a-brac) were sent home and all was well.
Drinking game tally
Rolls: 4
Crying: 1
Props: 4 (rice paddy hats), 10 fans, 3-4 hanging sheets (for shadow dance work)
Guest performers sang: Yes (well, at least part of the time. But it’s the BEP, so we forgive)
