Norah Jones’ New Album Gets Title And Release Date

As we previously reported, singer-songwriter Norah Jones is going ‘indie’ for her fourth studio album. Now we can add a title and release date to the story: The new album is titled The Fall, and the 13-track collection will be released by Blue Note Records on November 17. (Check below for the full album cover!)
Jones and her band debuted a new song from The Fall, “Young Blood,” while performing live Wednesday at Apple’s ‘It’s Only Rock And Roll’ media event, where Steve Jobs unveiled the new iPod Nano with video.
Drummers Joey Waronker (Beck, R.E.M.) and James Gadson (Bill Withers), keyboardist James Poyser (Erykah Badu, Al Green), and guitarists Marc Ribot (Tom Waits, Elvis Costello) and Smokey Hormel (Johnny Cash, Joe Strummer) join Jones as musical accompaniment on The Fall.
Kudos to Jones for rounding up such an A-plus group of musicians. Personal expectations for The Fall are now set to very high.
Jones has certainly shifted into a new direction for the new record, a chance to experiment with different sounds and an opportunity to work with a new set of collaborators, including Jacquire King, a noted producer and engineer who has worked with Kings of Leon, Tom Waits, and Modest Mouse among others.
Quick thought: How awesome would a Tom Waits-Norah Jones duet be?
“I knew I wanted to try some different things on this album,” Jones says. “I’d been playing with the same musicians for a long time. We’re all still friendly and I hope we play together again, but it felt like a good time to work with new people and experiment with different sounds.”
Alt-country star Ryan Adams and Okkervil River’s Will Sheff lend their songwriting skill to the new album – so the ‘hipster cool’ angle is all taken care of. Jesse Harris, who wrote Jones’ 2002 hit “Don’t Know Why,” is also on board.
The Fall is the follow-up to 2007’s Not Too Late.
