Japan-inspired Pyramid Home Is The Pits

pyramid house6 Japan inspired Pyramid Home Is The Pits

Inspired by some of Japan’s earliest architectural techniques, this dramatic home surrounds and shelters its family owners, offering open, airy access to the landscape and the warm protection of private spaces. Architects at Suppose Design Office came up with the concept, which is based on the prehistoric design of Japan’s “tateana jukyo”-styled pit dwellings. Built in a meter-deep pit dug in an open field, the new home trades lashed wooden poles and stacked reeds for glass, glossy concrete and black steel. The excavated soil was used to create an earthen berm, which surrounds the pyramid-shaped house. A timber staircase leads from the glass-enclosed base to the home’s angular upper story, which houses private spaces like bedrooms and bathrooms. [via momoy]
