Best Halloween Film: The Shining, The Ring or…?

If you’re the cinephile I’m guessing you are, Halloween won’t be spent next to some slutty naughty nurse at a party downtown, it will be spent on the couch with 2-3 great horror films and a bucket of chocolate for the trick-or-treaters that you’re hoping will never show up because they will A. Interrupt your movie B. Steal your precious chocolate.

The question is, what will you be watching? Something classic like The Shining or something more mainstream like The Ring? Or maybe something completely different like Saw or even Carrie? Are you more likely to look for something by a horror innovator such as Hitchcock, Polanski, and Romero or something that has the most blood splatter? Do you go for something classic or something new? Let us know…

I just found out that at the moment, The Shining is the most searched for horror film which to me seems unexpected but amazing. Luckily I have my own copy otherwise I would be worried about a Shining-shortage. There are a number of great films that have been left off this list, what’s your favorite?
